Welcome to Ion Physics, BioPhysics, Genomics and Proteomics Group

Professor Peter Derrick’s research group is working in the IIL in the Department of Physics and with the Cellular, Molecular and Organismal Biology Group in the School of Biological Sciences. IIL group is working with mass spectrometry which includes: Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR), Time-of-flight (TOF) techniques, electrospray ionization, Laser and surface techniques. This includes ion imaging design, fabrication and operation of complex instrumentation engineered for ultra-high resolution and application in genomics and epigenetics, as well as for analyzing the protein contents of biological systems with a view to developing biosensors for practical application in a wide variety of agricultural and sea food industries. Other aspect of IIL research is focused on Photovoltaics. The group is well resourced in terms of laboratory equipment and materials.
